On December 4, 2023, the Debevoise Data Strategy and Security Group released the inaugural edition of its Cybersecurity Desk Guide for Counsel.  The Desk Guide is a reference resource for counsel, in any size of organization, covering the many facets in which legal departments could engage with cybersecurity functions.

The rapid rise of cybersecurity is a key business priority for all companies. As the risks and regulations surrounding cybersecurity continue to evolve, so must the skill and knowledge of counsel at those companies. Though counsel have an increasingly important role to play, cybersecurity can often feel like an impenetrable subject. It is a vast, fast paced, technical and quickly developing area that combines legal analysis, risk and compliance.

This highly valuable resource is available to our clients as a starting point for understanding the contours of the relationship between cybersecurity and the legal function. The Desk Guide covers 17 topics that are categorized into three main areas: Compliance & Governance, Incident Response, and Partnerships.

In connection with the release, the Debevoise Data Strategy and Security Group also will be hosting a short series of webinars to discuss some of the topics included in the Desk Guide. Structured as panel discussions involving guest speakers, these webinars will provide practical guidance, tips and takeaways on how counsel at various organizations are navigating the cybersecurity landscape. Further details will be announced separately.
