This is the first year that Chambers USA has included AI as a ranking category. For this category, Chambers looks at advisory and governance services for the use of AI, including data privacy, copyright, regulatory compliance, and responsible usage policies. Both the practice and Avi Gesser were ranked, with Avi earning a Band 1 ranking. Chambers also continued its recognition of our market-leading cybersecurity and incident response work in its Privacy & Data Security: Cybersecurity category. This category considers law firms’ capacity to assist clients in preparing for and responding to non-intentional data use, including bad actors, data breaches, and any situation where companies lose containment over the use of data, as well as matters relating to ransomware and incident notifications. Debevoise continues to be the only firm with five attorneys—Luke Dembosky, Avi Gesser, Erez Liebermann, Jim Pastore and Matt Kelly—ranked in this category, including a Band 1 ranking for Luke. The group is separately recognized by Chambers as among The Elite practices for Privacy & Data Security. Charu Chandrasekhar is also newly ranked by Chambers for Securities: Regulation: Enforcement and has further strengthened and deepened the group’s ability to provide sophisticated, nuanced, and practical advice on AI-related issues to numerous SEC registrants and public companies.
While each set of rankings is impressive in its own right, it is the team’s dual excellence in both AI and Cybersecurity that sets it apart and positions it to adeptly help clients navigate issues in these areas, particularly as the two increasingly converge. The team’s two practice group leaders, Avi Gesser and Luke Dembosky, are ranked Band 1 for AI and Band 1 for Cybersecurity, respectively, and Data Strategy & Security group is the only team to have individuals ranked Band 1 for AI, Cybersecurity, and Crisis Management.
